MOT - with collection & delivery
WITHIN A 4 MILE RADIUS FROM B47
A required annual test that checks your vehicles emissions, roadworthiness and safety. An MOT test must be carried out at an approved MOT test centre. Your mechanic will collect and return your car as part of their service.
Please be aware that since May 2018 it is illegal for a vehicle that fails its MOT with a 'dangerous' defect to leave the test premises until fixed.
What Usually Causes an MOT Failure?
Most MOT failures come down to simple issues that are quickly and cheaply fixed. Some of the most common failures include:
Faulty bulbs
Tyre tread below 1.6mm
Empty windscreen washer fluid.
If you know that your vehicle requires work to pass its MOT, we’ll happily provide you with a quotation for this prior to the test, as well as offering advice on elements that you may not be so sure about.
When does a car need an MOT?
When your car is three years old from the date of its registration it will need its first MOT test - and then it needs to be retested every year on the anniversary of its last MOT test.
Once passed, you'll get an MOT test certificate with test date on it, and the date of expiry so you know when your next one is due. You can get the vehicle retested up to a month (minus a day) before it expires and keep the original renewal date.
New cars will need an MOT after its first three years. However, this date and information will be provided to you when you purchase your new vehicle.
Why is an MOT Important?
Thanks to modern engineering standards, passing your MOT should be a formality. But there is always a chance that something could have been damaged without you realising it. The official MOT test is a useful annual safety check. Smile Servicing are the ideal people you can trust to take care of your vehicle’s MOT testing and any repair work.
Once your vehicle has been tested you will receive the official VT20 MOT certificate. This is your receipt for the MOT test and shows the information that will be held on the MOT database. If your vehicle should require any recommended work, this will be listed on the advisory notice of the VT32 document.
What Should You do if Your MOT has Expired?
First of all, you should NOT drive freely without an MOT – this is against the law. The only exception to this rule is where you have a pre-booked appointment for your MOT testing – the law permits you to drive to the MOT test centre and to the test centre only.
